Although the concept of shared services is a tried and trusted one, it is essential to first conduct a feasibility assessment to ensure that a shared services path is the optimum solution for your organisation.

A well thought process should comprise a comprehensive evaluation of the full range of sourcing options available, through both research and a Feasibility Study. Research

This is both internal and external. Internal research includes the identification of business needs and level of interest, a stakeholder assessment and an analysis of risk. External research includes an examination of all the options available.

Feasibility Study

This includes a definition of the current state (people, processes and technology), 'To be' solution options, location analysis, business case and a transition approach.

The output is a clearly defined strategy that confirms the scope, operating model, commercial model, and presents the business case and transition approach. This will be the basis upon which your organisation makes its decision to proceed or otherwise.
